Natural history dioramas originated out of the late 1800s and their influence can be seen in the use of virtual reality (VR) technology today. Jacobs imbues them with this sensitivity through the dioramas placement within the walls, the specific optical lenses used to view the secret stages, and the lighting that illuminates the three-dimensional like paintings. Each leaf and blade of grass is shaped to situate a humble scene. Painstakingly constructed models display different species of fungi or weeds in the foreground.
